Gathering Litany

P: We begin worship in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, who claimed us in our baptisms and promised to never let us go. In this community we belong, just as we are. In worship we are nourished by the wisdom of God, and sent into the world to be agents of God’s transforming and renewing love. Amen.

Greeting and Prayer of the Day

God of freedom, history reveals your desire to unbind us from whatever holds us back. In Moses we see your clear directive to free people from physical bondage, and in Jesus we see your work to free people from spiritual bondage. Let your holy meal of bread and wine remind us of your liberating presence calling us forth to new life. Amen.

Story of the Day

Exodus 12:1-13; 13:1-8
The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt: This month shall mark for you the beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year for you. Tell the whole congregation of Israel that on the tenth of this month they are to take a lamb for each family, a lamb for each household. If a household is too small for a whole lamb, it shall join its closest neighbour in obtaining one; the lamb shall be divided in proportion to the number of people who eat of it. Your lamb shall be without blemish, a year-old male; you may take it from the sheep or from the goats. You shall keep it until the fourteenth day of this month; then the whole assembled congregation of Israel shall slaughter it at twilight. They shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they eat it. They shall eat the lamb that same night; they shall eat it roasted over the fire with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. Do not eat any of it raw or boiled in water, but roasted over the fire, with its head, legs, and inner organs. You shall let none of it remain until the morning; anything that remains until the morning you shall burn. This is how you shall eat it: your loins girded, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and you shall eat it hurriedly. It is the passover of the Lord. For I will pass through the land of Egypt that night, and I will strike down every firstborn in the land of Egypt, both human beings and animals; on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgements: I am the Lord. The blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you live: when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague shall destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.
The Lord said to Moses: Consecrate to me all the firstborn; whatever is the first to open the womb among the Israelites, of human beings and animals, is mine.Moses said to the people, ‘Remember this day on which you came out of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, because the Lord brought you out from there by strength of hand; no leavened bread shall be eaten. Today, in the month of Abib, you are going out. When the Lord brings you into the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, which he swore to your ancestors to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, you shall keep this observance in this month. For seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day there shall be a festival to the Lord. Unleavened bread shall be eaten for seven days; no leavened bread shall be seen in your possession, and no leaven shall be seen among you in all your territory. You shall tell your child on that day, “It is because of what the Lord did for me when I came out of Egypt.”
This is God’s Story for us Today:Thanks be to God!

Taste and see, taste and see
the goodness of the Lord.
Oh, taste and see, taste and see
the goodness of the Lord, of the Lord.

1 I will bless the Lord at all times.
Praise shall always be on my lips;
my soul shall glory in the Lord;
for God has been so good to me. (Refrain)

2 Glorify the Lord with me.
Together let us all praise God’s name.
I called the Lord, who answered me;
from all my troubles I was set free. (Refrain)

3 Worship the Lord, all you people.
You’ll want for nothing if you ask.
Taste and see that the Lord is good;
in God we need put all our trust. (Refrain)

Prayers of the People – Pastor Siri

Let us pray together for a hurting world:
God of protection, in this month of October we remember the victims of domestic violence. We pray for the women, the children, and the men who are emotionally, physically, and sexually abused by the people closest to them. We pray that they find safety. We pray that perpetrators get help. And we pray that laws are changed to protect those in fear for their lives. We light this purple candle in memory of those who have had their lives taken from them by those they loved. Lord in your mercy,Hear our prayer.
God of healing, we pray for Atonement Lutheran. As we continue in our ministry together, praying for one another, listening and supporting one another, we ask that you open our hearts to move forward together in your name. We pray for ____. Lord in your mercy,Hear our prayer.
God of freedom, you are in the business of rescuing those who are suffering under oppression. May the church be a channel for your activity throughout the world, unmasking evil, naming Truth, and standing up for the weak. May we embrace that your Gospel is truly good news to the poor. Lord in your mercy,Hear our prayer.
We bring all these prayers to you, knowing that you hear us. Now let us be agents of your mercy as well. Amen.

Beautiful Savior  ELW #838

1 Beautiful Savior, King of creation,
Son of God and Son of Man!
Truly I’d love thee, truly I’d serve thee,
light of my soul, my joy, my crown.

2 Fair are the meadows, fair are the woodlands,
robed in flow’rs of blooming spring;
Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer,
he makes our sorrowing spirit sing.

3 Fair is the sunshine, fair is the moonlight,
bright the sparkling stars on high;
Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer
than all the angels in the sky.

4 Beautiful Savior, Lord of the nations,
Son of God and Son of Man!
Glory and honor, praise, adoration,
now and forevermore be thine!
